Horrible Manipur video viral

The Indian government is planning to take action against Twitter due to the circulation of a distressing video that could potentially lead to issues related to law and order. The video in question shows two women from Manipur being paraded naked and molested by a group of men. It went viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage and condemnation.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has reportedly warned social media platforms, including Twitter, about complying with the new IT rules, which emphasize freedom of expression with "reasonable restrictions." The government has made it clear that videos that have the potential to cause law and order problems are not allowed under the law.

To address this issue, an order initiating action against Twitter for non-compliance was issued, and the IT ministry is actively working with various platforms to prevent further circulation of the video.

The incident occurred on May 4, following clashes between the Meitei and Kuki tribes in Manipur. The violence resulted from the Meiteis' demand for Scheduled Tribes (ST) status. Tragically, over 120 people lost their lives in the ethnic violence, and thousands have been internally displaced, taking refuge in relief camps.

Law enforcement authorities have identified some of the men involved in the video and have made an arrest. The survivors of the gang-rape came forward to report the crime approximately 15 days after the horrific assault. The police are diligently investigating the case under the orders of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

The opposition parties have targeted the ruling BJP, which governs the state of Manipur, and have raised the issue in parliament during the ongoing monsoon session. The situation has garnered national attention and concern, with many demanding swift and decisive action against those responsible for the heinous crime.
