Internet services have been suspended in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh since 4 pm on Monday, May 29, 2023, and heavy police force has been deployed in the area following tension between the upper caste Rajputs and the OBC Gurjar community over a ‘gaurav yatra’ taken out by the latter in honor of the ninth-century ruler Mihir Bhoj. The Gurjar community took out a march despite prohibitory orders being in place, and the internet services were suspended as a precautionary measure. The heightened security measures were taken after the Gurjar community held a rally for Mihir Bhoj, and tensions rose between the Gurjar and Rajput communities.

Internet services were suspended in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur on Monday (May 29) after the Gurjar community took out a march despite prohibitory orders being in place.

The Gurjar community’s ‘gaurav yatra’ in honour of King Mihir Bhoj Pratihar had been opposed by the Rajput community, PTI reported. In order to avoid any confrontation between the two groups, the administration had denied the march permission.
