Chandrayaan 3 Dispatch LIVE Upgrades

Moon landing anticipated on Admirable 23rd at around 5.47pm, says ISRO chief S Somanath

Chandrayaan 3, the third lunar mission by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has successfully launched from the Sriharikota launchpad. This ambitious mission aims to achieve a feat in moon exploration that has so far only been accomplished by the United States, China, and the former Soviet Union.

After a gap of 15 years since its first lunar expedition, ISRO's Chandrayaan 3 has begun its month-long journey towards the moon. The primary objective of this mission is to accomplish a soft landing on the lunar surface, a task that proved challenging during the previous mission, Chandrayaan 2, when communication with the lander 'Vikram' was lost.

The unsuccessful landing of Chandrayaan 2 in 2019 left the ISRO team disheartened. Many still remember the emotional moment when the then ISRO chief K Sivan was consoled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was present during the event to witness this rare feat.

Now, scientists at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre have dedicated countless hours of hard work to master the technology of soft-landing on the moon's surface. The successful launch of Chandrayaan 3 marks a significant step forward in India's space exploration endeavors. The crucial part of the mission, the soft landing, is planned for late August, and the ISRO team is determined to achieve this milestone.
